Fandom: Doctor Who Rating: R Word count: 3784 Pairing: Doctor/Rose Summary: Rose Tyler, after the end. Spoilers: MASSIVE spoilers for 4x13 Journey's End.
That was my reaction. I am all "la la I guess I will get all my alt!Doctor/Rose thoughts out" and then I am all "this is sweet and ... I am happy? WHAT IS GOING ON."
Oh, this was lovely, just the right mix of awkward and perfect.
And may I say THANK YOU for including a mention of Jake? That was my loose end I was missing last night; if Mickey stayed, what about Jake? Of course, I'm of the opinion that Mickey and Jake were together, for awhile at least, so it made me wonder . . .
I thought Mickey and Jake were together too! but if Mickey did not mention Jake dying, I was not going to kill him. Perhaps it just didn't work out because Jake was in love with Ricky, not Mickey?
Which means I've just made Rose and alt!Doctor a lot more fortunate than Mickey, but perhaps he will go be awesome on Torchwood next year, so it'll be all right.
Because this? This is my canon, from hands clasped to hands cramping to suspected ulterior motives for "I love you" to working together to sleeping together to the Doctor needing Rose to stop him. From the stars to a life on earth, a completely unordinary but very grounded human existence. And your aliens are fantastic!
And the fairy tale bit makes me squee on so many levels. *Flails*
From a writing perspective, this is also just wonderful. I love how you've framed it with the fairy tale stuff (which is written just like all good fairy tales should be), and the way you word things and the scenes and details you include just work.
(Also, we both put Rose in cloud-print pajamas in our respective fics. This amuses me quite a bit.)
ah, well done! There are many parts that I liked -- 100 wpm! yeah. *grin* I think that this could be used as a template for a much longer fic. Go for it.
That was, without a doubt the most poignant, most brilliant post-Journey's End fic I've read. You are an amazingly gifted storyteller and this piece just improved my post-finale coping skills significantly.
"Done this before," the Doctor confesses to her on the way home, half-shouting and the wind in their hair. "Spent a few years working for UNIT when the TARDIS wasn't working properly." He reaches over and clasps his hand in hers, still a little warmer than she expects it to be despite the wind. He grins sideways at her. "Didn't have you then." She smiles back at him, smiles and smiles until her face aches with joy.
Also other parts, but that is one of the particulars. Also, your Doctor voice is still just amazing amazing amazing, and your Rose is just lovely, and Jackie is I think maybe a little bit off but not around too much! Anyway Jackie Tyler is inimitable.
Possibly most of all I admire your ability to come up with miniplots that are EXACTLY like actual episodes! Except they sound so much more fun coming from you than from the actual TV. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.
ummm anyway, you know how great this is and have plenty of slavering minions to remind you, so now I am done.
I really like this! It makes me feel better about the finale, that their lives could work out great. Rose didn't like it when Nine regenerated, but she got over it, right? It isn't a total loss.
Fantastic. This summed up the new doctor for me: "she starts to wonder how that other Doctor would kiss, and then understands: he wouldn't. This is how he would, if only he could, and she's the luckiest girl in the world."
Oh, this is so, so, so good. I'm... not sure what else to say, really. Except this is brilliant and wonderful and perfect and exactly what I needed after the emotional turmoil of that finale.
Oh! I'm nearly crying. That was intense and wonderful. I love the fairy tale that wasn't structure of it.
she starts to wonder how that other Doctor would kiss, and then understands: he wouldn't. This is how he would, if only he could, and she's the luckiest girl in the world.
And I love that line. That's when I started tearing up. Excellent. Thanks for writing.
So thanks to a) your meta and b) this story, I am now totally fine with the alt!Doctor/Rose. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Oh, well, awesome.
In related news, I adore you, and this is wonderful. Perhaps due to my watching Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways yesterday, but more likely due to your genius, your alt!Doctor voice came through in my head as just a bit...North. (Oh, Nine.)

I would promise to one day get my Jackie voice right, except that I do ... not actually foresee writing more fic with Jackie in. ;_; SORRY JACKIE.
The mental image of you as a slavering minion just made me nearly snort milk up my nose.
